Dr Richard Gibson

Dr Richard is a Specialist General Practitioner and a family doctor of the old school. He is interested in meeting and working with the whole person, not just the disease, and in being there for people across their whole life journey. He also looks after gender identity care for patients of all ages.

He spent years gaining broad experience in the rural hospitals of South Africa before his family moved to Perth. He started in the emergency department at Armadale Hospital, then moved into local general practice, and has been part of the Armadale community ever since.

Working in general practice here, Dr Richard saw a need for more specialised adolescent health care in general practice, and for better ways to engage men with their health. He went on to complete the Graduate Diploma of Adolescent Health and Wellbeing in Melbourne. He then worked at headspace Armadale for four years and looked after the students at two of Perth’s universities for six years.

His main interests are family medicine, adolescent health and men’s health. As a generalist he also sees people for chronic disease management, mental health, minor procedures, preventive health checks and travel health.

Away from work

When he is not at work, Dr Richard can be found killing plants in his garden, torturing his bonsai or hiking in the great outdoors.
